Beneath the Surface

This project explores the visual language of rust, oxidation, and peeling surfaces as a metaphor for identity. As layers of paint and corrosion gradually erode, they reveal hidden colours, textures, and histories beneath, suggesting that no surface is ever singular. This process reflects the way identity is formed through multiple experiences, emotions, and facets of self that exist simultaneously. Through layered textiles, rich textures, and oxidised colour palettes, this work seeks celebrate that we are not defined by one fixed identity, but are instead a composition of many interconnected parts that together create a complete whole.
